The working group of the International Union for Conservation of Nature visited the "Goravan Dunes" state reserve

Within the framework of the meeting of the European, North and Central Asia community of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the working group in the Republic of Armenia visited the "Goravan Dunes" state reserve.
Radik Oghikyan, Acting Director of the Khosrov Forest State Reserve, presented to the guests the features of the reserve's conservation regime and the natural system and its components representing benchmark, scientific, historical, cultural and economic value of the reserve area.
The main purpose of the creation of the reserve was to ensure the preservation, reproduction and sustainable use of the unique psamafoil/sandy ecosystem in Transcaucasia, including the integrity of the unique flora and fauna of the loose sands.
The reserve ranks first in Armenia with the number of rare and endangered species of vascular plants.
The only natural juzgun (Calligonum polygonoides) ecosystem in Transcaucasia is located in this reserve. A number of other rare and valuable species registered in the RA Red Book also grow here.
