The meeting was attended by Levon Azizyan, Acting Director of “Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center” of the RA MoE, Armen Chilingaryan, UNDP Disaster Risk Reduction Programme  Coordinator, and UNDP Climate, Environment, Resilience Programme Analyst (Team Leader) Hovhannes Ghazaryan.

 “Increase Resilience of Armenia to Climate Change through Modernization of Armenia’s Hydrometerological Service” project is implemented by RA HMC SNCO and UNDP, which is funded by the Government of the Russian Federation.
The aim of the project is to improve climate change adaptation planning and programming in Armenia through enhancing the capacity of national hydro-meteorological observation and warning services, for strengthening Armenia’s resilience to climate change risks:
The following works were performed within the project scopes:
23 out of 47 stations actually operating in Armenia have been modernized with the introduction of automatic meteorological stations in Yerevan and in six regions of Armenia: Shirak, Lori, Aragatsotn, Vayots Dzor, Armavir and Ararat.
The IMS CLDB Climatological and Integrated Environmental Database was also introduced.
The training center of “Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center” (hereinafter HMC SNCO) was upgraded and furnished.
Three online trainings  were held for the  staff of HMC to learn about the system capacities  and capabilities, usage rules as well.
In a bid to supervise capacity-building of the HMC, five powerful computers for GIS mapping, 2 MAVIC PRO  drones and RTK digital mapping system, which will enable to collect and process data on forests, reservoir risks and GIS mapping.
Web cameras were provided to the HMC SNCO to ensure the security of meteorological stations.
Also,  1 server and the UPS for data storage was provided.
The UNDP expert conducted a study for HMC SNCO and made a report on "Comparative analysis of anti-hail systems to be used in Armenia". During the research, one of the most commonly used anti-hail systems both in the world and in the Republic of Armenia to provide recommendations and proposals for determining the most effective systems for protection of agricultural lands from hail exposure were analyzed. In the course of the meeting, Minister Romanos Petrosyan attached importance to the UNDP-implemented “Increase Resilience of Armenia to Climate Change through Modernization of  Armenia's Hydrometeorological Service”. The Minister expressed hope that the project will be continued, the implementation of which will contribute to the modernization of the hydrometeorological monitoring system.
At the meeting, "Forest Fire Management, Introduction of Internal and External Alarm System" developed for "Khosrov Forest" State Reserve was submitted, which will enable connection through the installation of Low Range system stations in the whole territory of Khosrov. The system developed simultaneously will enable to establish a coordinated mechanism between 4 key phenomena: forestry, rescue service, municipality, community volunteers, to test it, with the objective of spreading it to other forest areas in the future.
