The sixth meeting of the meeting of the Parties to the Protocol on Water and Health of the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Water Flows and International Lakes was held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The meetings were attended by both countries that are a party to the protocol "water and health" and countries that are not a party. The Armenian delegation included representatives of the Ministries of Environment, Territorial Administration, Infrastructure and Health.
Lilit Abrahamyan, Head of the Department of Water Policy of the Ministry of Environment, in her speech touched upon the progress and achievements of the Republic of Armenia related to the agenda in the field of water and health, in particular: "EU + Water Initiative" and "EU for the Environment. development of the national objectives of the protocol "water and health" within the framework of the programs "water resources and environmental data", their revision, implementation of the processes of approximation of water legislation to EU directives, as well as the role of the dialogue of national water policy in promoting the process of water supply and health in the country.
Lilit Abrahamyan, on behalf of the Ministry of Environment, thanked the EU for its constant assistance and long-term cooperation.
The Protocol was signed by the Republic of Armenia back in 1999 in London, but has not yet been ratified. Nevertheless, a process related to the water and health agenda has been carried out in the country, given that the Protocol on Water and Health is a legally binding instrument aimed at ensuring safe and sufficient drinking water through sustainable water resources management.
Over the past 20 years, the protocol has supported significant progress in water supply, sanitation and health in the pan-European region through its targeted mechanism.
