The Operation of a State-of-the-Art Meteorological Station Installed on the Shores of Lake Sevan Was Solemnly Launched

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the President of Germany and Hakob Simidyan, Minister of the Environment of the RA solemnly launched the work of a state-of-the-art meteorological station installed on the shores of Lake Sevan.
The operation of the automatic meteorological station, acquired as part of the EU4Sevan project and implemented with the financial support of the German Government and the EU, along with its importance for Lake Sevan, were presented to Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the President of Germany, and Mrs. Elke Büdenbender, who are on an official visit to the Republic of Armenia.
The EU4Sevan project purchased five German OTT brand current meters to measure water discharge at the hydrological observation points of the "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" SNCO which operate on the rivers flowing into Lake Sevan.
Within the framework of the EU4Sevan project, one automatic meteorological station from the MicroStep-MIS company was also purchased and installed in the coastal zone of Lake Sevan.
The role of the station is emphasized because it is located directly in the coastal zone, allowing for the collection of meteorological data directly from the lake's shoreline area.
The evaporator installed in the station will allow to refine and specify the method of evaporation from the surface of Lake Sevan based on the observational data.
After the official opening ceremony of the station, Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, presented Lake Sevan and its exceptional significance and ecosystem importance to the President of Germany.
The Deputy Minister also provided detailed information on measures aimed at the protection of Lake Sevan. It was also mentioned that various programs are being implemented to maintain the water level of the lake, which include activities aimed at reducing water pollution as well as managing and preserving water resources.
Aram Meymaryan highlighted the results achieved under the "EU4Sevan" project, emphasizing that coastal communities also benefit from the implementation of the mentioned project.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier personally participated in the water sampling from the coastal area of Lake Sevan and examined the equipment. After the physicochemical testing of the water, he inquired about the results. The employees of the "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" SNCO informed the president that the data on electrical conductivity, acidity, temperature, chlorophyll, and total dissolved salts were within permissible limits, and they were satisfied with the results.
