Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan Presented the New Draft Law "On Climate" and a Package of Related Draft Laws in the National Assembly

On November 11, at the RA NA regular sitting the draft law on Climate and the package of the attached presented draft laws were debated.
The organization of the processes of developing, implementing, and coordinating climate change mitigation and adaptation policies in the Republic of Armenia will be regulated by the adoption of the legislative package.
According to the presentation of the Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, the package of draft laws will establish the necessary and authorized norms for the development and implementation of climate policy. The basis will be provided for the establishment and continuous development of a system of measurements, accountability and certification in accordance with the expanded framework of transparency designed by the Paris Agreement adopted under the Framework Convention on Climate Change. It will promote the development of the capacities of the environment, population, regions, communities, economic sectors and infrastructure.
With the adoption of the package of draft laws, we expect to have clearly defined goals and opportunities aimed at increasing the resilience of the economy, clearly established powers and a framework of responsibilities, and innovative financial mechanisms introduced,” the key rapporteur said, proposing the MPs to vote in favour of the legislative initiative.
Mikayel Tumasyan, Member of the Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environment Protection presented the endorsement of the Head Committee on the legislative package.
