Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, met with Musonda Mumba, Secretary-General of the Ramsar Convention.
The 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar) is being held in Zimbabwe from July 21-29.
The delegation led by Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, is currently in Zimbabwe, participating in the conference and presenting Armenia’s policies and implemented programmes focused on the protection of water resources and wetlands.
As part of the visit, Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, met with Musonda Mumba, Secretary General of the Ramsar Convention. During the meeting, the parties discussed a range of issues of mutual interest.
Aram Meymaryan presented the efforts undertaken in the Republic of Armenia to preserve wetlands of international importance within the framework of the Ramsar Convention, with particular emphasis on conservation programmes for Lake Sevan implemented by the Government of Armenia in cooperation with international partners.
The Deputy Minister also outlined the progress of the “Resilient Armenia” programme, which, through co-financing from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Government of Sweden, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and the World Bank, aims to restore and preserve wetlands across the Republic of Armenia.
The meeting also addressed the possibility of strengthening cooperation with the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands and international organizations, with the aim of enhancing the effective implementation of wetland conservation efforts by member countries.
Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan presented the ongoing preparatory work for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which will be held in Armenia in 2026. Musonda Mumba expressed her willingness to support Armenia in organizing the conference.
The meeting also addressed prospects for strengthening the interconnection and mutual support between the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Convention on Wetlands.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan extended an invitation to Musonda Mumba to participate in COP17, which she accepted with appreciation.
