The board meeting of the United Nations Development Program and the Green Climate Fund “De-Risking and Scaling-Up Investment in Energy Efficient Building Retrofits” UNDP-GCF project took place.
Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan (Co-Chairman of the Project Council), Permanent Representative of UNDP in Armenia Natia Natsvlishvili (Co-Chairman of the Project Council) and the members of the Council from the interested departments took part in the council session.
Before the start of the session, the changed composition and agenda of the Project Council were approved.
Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan made an opening speech.
"We are happy to report that the proposal of the 2021 program board to apply to the Climate Green Fund to extend the program's validity by 36 months has already been implemented, and the program will continue until June 2026.
The basis for the extension of the project dates was the clear position of our partners in the government, including the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Territorial Development and Infrastructure regarding the full inclusion of energy efficiency measures in capital reconstruction programs and the economical use of budgetary resources.
The Environmental Programs Implementation Office of the Ministry of Environment is implementing a systematic assessment system of environmental benefits within the framework of this program. The results of the program have all the prerequisites to serve as a guarantee for the Green Climate Fund to attract new resources for the benefit of the public of our country," the Minister noted.
Project coordinator Vahram Jalalyan and Armen Ajamoghlyan, responsible for the first component of the Project, made speeches. Rusudan Tashuri, the international head of the Project, gave a report on upcoming actions, existing problems, challenges and obstacles.
This year, the program ensured effective cooperation with the RA Prime Minister's Office, Yerevan Municipality, Territorial Management and Infrastructure, Health, Education, Science, Culture and Sports Ministries regarding thermal modernization of public and apartment buildings.
In general, with the support and co-financing of the project, around 220 buildings were thermally modernized, of which more than 150 were residential.
