Ahead of the International Day for Biological Diversity, within the framework of the "Biodiversity Week in Armenia" events initiated by the Ministry of Environment of the RA, the event titled "Unite for Nature: International Cooperation Day " was held in cooperation with UNDP.
The main goal of the event was to foster collaborative partnership by bringing together representatives from the government, international organizations, local authorities, communities, the private sector, and the media for a sustainable and green future.
Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing the vital role of biodiversity conservation as one of the pillars of the country’s environmental, socio-economic, and national security policies.
Natia Natsvlishvili, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, also delivered a welcoming speech and noted that the initiative is fully aligned with this year’s theme for the International Day for Biological Diversity.
“This is not just a slogan, but a call to action. It reflects our shared responsibility to align human activities with the urgent need to conserve and restore nature. Our well-being is inextricably linked to the health of ecosystems and the preservation of biodiversity.”
The event also marked the official opening of the Boo Mountain Bike Park in Vanadzor — a successful example of environmental restoration and the promotion of ecotourism. Initially funded by the UNDP-GEF Small Grants Programme, the project was later expanded through partnerships with the European Union and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), evolving into a model for integrated and sustainable development.
