Within the framework of participation in the 28th Conference of UN Climate Change Conference (COP 28) in 2023, Minister Hakob Simidyan had a bilateral meeting with Pablo Vieira, Global Director of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) Partnership Support Unit and invited the latter to Armenia.
Within the framework of the invitation, the delegation of the NDC Partnership Support Unit arrived in Armenia.
Let us remind that in order to effectively implement the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) the Republic of Armenia joined the NDC Partnership in August 2018.
The Ministry of Environment and The Ministry of Economy have been appointed as coordinating bodies, and the United Nations Development Programme as a supporting partner.
The NDC Partnership brings together more than 200 members, including more than 130 countries, developed and developing , and nearly 100 institutions to create and deliver on ambitious climate action that help achieve the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
After welcoming the partners, Minister Hakob Simidyan highly appreciated the work of the NDC Partnership Support Unit with developed countries and expressed hope that this visit will serve as an excellent opportunity to evaluate the steps taken by the Republic of Armenia in the climate agenda and to help make them more effective.
"The Government of the Republic of Armenia is responsible for the effective management of climate risks in terms of its obligations and we really have a great desire to make our actions more effective," the minister noted.
Pablo Vieira highlighted the importance of the visit in terms of assessing the country's needs.
"First of all, allow me to congratulate You on the approval of the low-carbon strategy, highlight Armenia's achievements in terms of the NDC, as well as in the development of the new climate law. In all those directions, the NDC Partnership Support Unit is ready to assist Armenia."
At the end of the meeting, the partners referred to the summarization of the progress of the NDC implementation before the upcoming NDC 3.0 forum scheduled for October 11 and the official presentation of the "The NDC Support Programme".
