"From Recovery to Resistance: Towards COP 17 and Beyond" Event Was Held

The “Environmental Project Implementation Unit” SA organized an event titled “From Recovery to Resilience: Towards COP 17 and Beyond” within the framework of the “Yerevan Dialogue 2025” initiative.
The event brought together state, international, and local partners to discuss best practices for building resilient ecosystems and communities, with a particular focus on Armenia’s preparations for the COP17 global Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity that will be held in 2026.
During the event, Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA delivered a welcoming speech and expressed gratitude to the Government of Sweden, the World Bank, the UN System, and all partners for their contributions to advancing biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in Armenia.
“Armenia is honoured to host the COP17 conference, which presents a unique opportunity to place biodiversity issues at the heart of national development, land use, agriculture, and climate policy,” Aram Meymaryan noted.
The Deputy Minister specifically emphasized that the principles of participation and inclusiveness of all interested sectors in environmental protection have been established as priorities in Armenia’s environmental policy agenda, with significant efforts currently underway to advance these goals.
“We have clearly defined that without sustainable communities, targeted financial resources, and the active involvement of key stakeholders, achieving sustainable economic development and environmental protection is challenging. In this context, environmental protection goes beyond nature conservation; it is ultimately the foundation of a healthy human lifestyle. The “Armenia Resilient Landscapes” project represents a significant step in this direction. Through the continuity of such initiatives, we can ultimately realize our desired outcomes. In this regard, not only are the efforts of the state commendable, but the sustained support of our international partners is also invaluable,” Aram Meymaryan said.
The event featured discussions on several key topics, including:
Innovative financial solutions for biodiversity conservation;
Strategic priorities being shaped in preparation for COP17;
Opportunities for international cooperation in climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation;
Practical models for ecosystem restoration and management at the community level, with a particular focus on the “Armenia Resilient Landscapes” project.
The "Yerevan Dialogue 2025" platform aims to bring together national and international leaders, politicians, scientists, civil society and private sector representatives to collaboratively address global environmental challenges, with a particular focus on the urgent need to prevent biodiversity loss.
