Within the framework of COP27, Deputy Minister of Environment Gayane Gabrielyan and representatives of the Armenian delegation held a bilateral meeting with representatives of the NDC partnership

Within the framework of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, COP27, held in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Deputy Minister of Environment Gayane Gabrielyan and representatives of the Armenian delegation held a bilateral meeting with representatives of the Partnership (nationally determined Actions/investments, NDC).
The meeting was attended by Pablo Vieira, Head of the Partnership Support Department of the NDC, and Marianna Panunzio-Feldman, Head of the Partnership Support Department for Country Engagement.
During the meeting, the parties once again stated that the partnership program is an effective document and tool for governments to coordinate climate projects and partner actions within the framework of the implementation of the NDC in order to align donor support with national climate priorities and the needs of the implementation of the NDC.
Deputy Minister Gayane Gabrielyan noted that at the moment there is no Environmental Code at the macro level in Armenia that would ensure climate change and all sub-sectors of the environment (water, waste, circular economy, forests, mining, biodiversity, etc.), therefore, there is no Environmental Code for all interested sectors directly related to the implementation of actions established at the national level:
To ensure the most tangible results, the Deputy Minister emphasized a strategic and versatile approach to climate programs. In this context, Gayane Gabrielyan also touched upon the importance of proper institutional involvement and exploring ways that will help other industry departments to be more involved in the development of climate policy.
During the meeting, Armenia's experience in creating a public investment management system was highlighted. The Deputy Minister presented that the Armenian government has created a similar management system and is trying to identify projects envisaged for climate resilience banks by developing a model for managing public investments in climate.
An agreement was reached after COP27 on December 5 this year to organize a meeting to discuss the climate agenda with interested parties and partners in Armenia with the participation of the NDC Partnership Support Department.
This event will also be a good opportunity to support the implementation of the NDC Partnership Program and actions established at the national level, as well as to learn about the status of the implementation of sectoral strategies supporting the implementation of actions established at the national level.
The event will also focus on the financial needs for the implementation of the NDC, discussing ways of climate finance, including the state budget and international support.
