Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan received Fabio Vaz Pitaluga, H.E. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil. The discussions focused on global environmental processes and new opportunities for bilateral cooperation, particularly regarding preparations and key agenda areas for the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) to be held in Brazil in November 2025, and the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) to be held in Armenia in October 2026.
Ambassador Fabio Vaz Pitaluga emphasized Brazil’s commitment to ensuring the high efficiency and inclusiveness of COP30, presenting Brazil’s vision, priorities, and key thematic areas. He expressed interest in Armenia’s participation, the composition of its delegation, and the proposed contributions.
Special attention was given to Armenia’s preparations to host COP17 in autumn of 2026. Minister Matevosyan outlined the progress of organizational processes, the development of the substantive agenda, and the areas for expanding cooperation with international partners. He stressed that Armenia is approaching this important global event with great responsibility and aims to strengthen the country’s role in shaping international environmental policy.
The parties also addressed:
- Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, including their updating and implementation mechanisms;
- Preconditions for ensuring synergy between UN conventions;
- Sustainable ecosystem management, emission reduction, adaptation strategies, and the promotion of a green transition;
- Prospects for deepening bilateral and multilateral cooperation within the COP framework.
The parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to continue regular dialogue and effective cooperation, particularly in the lead-up to the upcoming global conferences.
