On September 18, the 7th Steering Committee Meeting of the "Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan" (EU4Sevan) project was held, during which the progress and strategic issues of the project were discussed.
Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment, Zuzana Sorocinova, Programme Officer of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Katrin Buder-Peltz, Head of Economic Cooperation and Development Department of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Madeleine Rauschenberger, GIZ Office Armenia Country Director, , Konstantin Sokulsky, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Armenia, Alexander Arakelyan, Programme Component Manager (EU4Sevan) at GIZ and Astghik Danielyan, Project Coordinator at UNDP Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan (EU4Sevan) Project participated in the meeting.
At the meeting, the steering committee presented proposals for further work to be carried out, as well as discussed the work carried out in the previous three years and their results.
The meeting started with the welcome speech of Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan, as the Co-Chairman of the Program Steering Committee. Aram Meymaryan thanked the partners and spoke about the progress of the project and the existing challenges.
In his speech, Deputy Minister presented the hydrological data of Lake Sevan and noted that the level of Lake Sevan on August 14 of this year was 1900.66m, which is 21 cm higher than the indicator of the same day last year (1900.45m), and that during the months of July and August, the lowest value of the decrease in the level of Lake Sevan in the last 15 years was observed.
Deputy Minister described these results as a "gift of nature" as well as the result of works aimed at restoring the lake's ecosystem.
Katrin Buder-Peltz, Head of Economic Cooperation and Development Department of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, addressed the audience, highlighting the remarkable successes of the project and the importance of cooperation, noting that the problem of Lake Sevan is not limited to water conservation, but also extends to biodiversity, land use and a number of other areas. In the end, she expressed hope that the project will successfully overcome all challenges and achieve even greater success as it nears its end.
Madeleine Rauschenberger, GIZ Office Armenia Country Director, noted. “As the project enters its final phase, it is more important than ever to identify and address the project's strategic challenges, including those related to ensuring the sustainability of the project's achievements. I think we are all ready and with our joint efforts we will successfully overcome these challenges."

Alexandr Arakelyan, Programme Component Manager (EU4Sevan) at GIZ and Astghik Danielyan, Project Coordinator at UNDP Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan (EU4Sevan) Project presented the achievements and existing obstacles of the project at the meeting, followed by a discussion.
During the 7th steering committee meeting of the "Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan" EU4SEVAN Project, the concept of managing and organizing the project's future work was emphasized, along with a broad range of issues regarding the mechanisms for ensuring the implementation of the actions carried out.
