The “ECOserve Armenia” programme aimed at improving pastures and grasslands in Armenia was summarized.
The event was implemented within the framework of the “Management of Natural Resources and Safeguarding of Ecosystem Services for Sustainable Rural Development in the South Caucasus” (ECOserve) regional programme.
The overall objective of ECOserve Armenia is to improve the preconditions for sustainable pasture management (SPM), with particular attention on energy security of the rural population. During the event, the results and achievements of the activities implemented in Armenia within the framework of the programme will be presented.
During the event, Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment; Vache Terteryan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia and Madeleine Rauschenberger, GIZ Office Armenia Country Director delivered welcoming speeches.
In his speech, Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan expressed gratitude to the German Government, and in particular, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of the Federal Republic of Germany, for their continued support for improving the environmental sector of the Republic of Armenia and referred to the important achievements that have been recorded during the implementation of the programme.
The Deputy Minister particularly referred to the significance of the programme components for communities and the implementation of environmental programmes from the perspective of sustainable development.
The Deputy Minister thanked the entire team of the programme for advancing the agenda of environmental issues and adding value to the environment and making Armenia stronger and more resilient.
The “Management of Natural Resources and Safeguarding of Ecosystem Services for Sustainable Rural Development in the South Caucasus” (ECOserve Armenia) programme was commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of the German Federal Republic. It is implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
As a regional programme, ECOserve was implemented in the countries of the South Caucasus region in 2018-2023. Since March 2023, the programme activities have continued only in Armenia. The projects “Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan” (EU4Sevan) and “EU4Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Armenian Communities” (EU4EE), which are part of ECOserve programme, delegated by the BMZ and are co-financed by the European Union and will continue until 2025.
