Ara Mkrtchyan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, received a delegation of the Kingdom of Sweden within the framework of cooperation and exchange of experience.
Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as relevant departments of the Ministry of Environment of the RA, also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister highlighted the experience of Sweden and other Scandinavian countries in the field of waste management, noting that it could be useful for Armenia in developing sustainable and effective systems.
Ara Mkrtchyan also referred to the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), presenting the work currently being carried out.
In the context of waste management, the importance of developing and implementing codes of conduct, as well as introducing incentive mechanisms to encourage citizens to adopt a culture of waste sorting, was emphasized.
The legislative initiative regulating the circulation of plastic bags, which has received a positive conclusion in the National Assembly, along with other mechanisms aimed at reducing plastic use, was also discussed.
The meeting was an important step toward studying international experience and deepening sectoral cooperation.
