Environment Minister Hakob Simidyan met the delegation headed by Veronica Garcia del Arco, Director of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia of KfW German Development Bank.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan, General Secretary of the Ministry Sergo Atanesyan, Chairman of the Forestry Committee Vladimir Kirakosyan and Head of the Department of Special Nature Protected Areas and Biodiversity Policy Voskehat Grigoryan.
The minister welcomed the partners and once again emphasized the importance of Armenian-German bilateral cooperation in the field of environment.
The minister thanked the German government and the German Reconstruction Loans Bank (KfW) for their support to the environmental reforms of the Republic of Armenia and joint efforts aimed at its development.
The German side reaffirmed its commitment to support the environmental protection and sustainable management of the Republic of Armenia.
During the meeting, legislative reforms in the field were discussed. the minister presented to his colleagues the legislative regulations of forests, biodiversity and water sector in particular.
The program "Biodiversity and sustainable local development in Armenia" was discussed, the total budget of which is around 26 million euros. it was provided by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through KfW, as well as the "Protected Areas Support Program-Armenia" project, which is implemented with the financial support of the German Revolving Credit Bank (KfW), within the framework of which environmental and socio-economic and investment programs aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the protection of protected areas and forest areas of Syunik region and developing the capacities of the structures that carry out their protection.
An agreement was reached to continue close contacts and expand the directions of interaction in the near future.
