Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment, Tatevik Stepanyan, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Konstantin Sokulsky Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Armenia, representatives of interested departments, non-governmental organizations and mass media participated in the award ceremony.
In his speech, Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan referred to the challenges caused by climate change and the role of women in resisting this change.
"As you know, climate change has a disproportionate impact on women, especially in developing countries. Due to prevailing gender roles and social stereotypes, women are often more responsible for providing food, water and fuel for the family. And as these resources become increasingly scarce due to climate change, the burden falls disproportionately on women.
However, women not only bear the consequences of climate change, but also play a key role in combating it. Women are often the custodians of traditional knowledge and practices that can help mitigate the effects of climate change. Women show a high degree of innovation and entrepreneurship in finding solutions to environmental problems.
It is important that women are fully involved in climate change decision-making and policy-making. Their voices, experiences and knowledge must be heard and taken into account when developing climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.
This policy was adopted by the Government of the RA. In a number of sectoral strategic programs, in the development strategies of agriculture, energy, healthcare, and water resources, the role of women has been emphasized, educational and gender priority measures have been planned," said Aram Meymaryan.
