Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity held a meeting-discussion with individuals, representatives from environmental and non-governmental organizations and initiative groups engaged in environmental protection issues
As part of the visit of Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, to the Republic of Armenia, a meeting was held today at the UN Office in Armenia with individuals, representatives from environmental protection organizations, NGOs, and initiative groups.
During the meeting, the Executive Secretary of the Convention presented the Secretariat's vision for organizing COP17, the tasks to be done, and the formats for the participation of civil society representatives in all of the mentioned.
The measures taken within the framework of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity were discussed, along with new opportunities for environmental policy and action at both the national and international levels. Astrid Schomaker emphasized that biodiversity conservation issues require collective efforts, and that cooperation between various stakeholders is crucial. She emphasized that the contribution of environmental organizations and public initiatives within the framework of COP17 can serve as a stimulus for new ideas and solutions.
During the meeting, Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA gave a speech, thanking the representatives from non-governmental organizations for constantly keeping environmental issues in the spotlight and for their effective cooperation.
Representatives from environmental and non-governmental organizations spoke about the programs and projects they are implementing and participated in a question-and-answer session regarding their participation and involvement in the conference.
