Armenia, Moldova and Ukraine Strengthen Water Management with EU Support

A workshop on the establishment of national coordination platforms for the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive was held in Chișinău. Representatives and experts from the governments of Armenia, Moldova, and Ukraine participated in the workshop. The EU Water Framework Directive is one of the cornerstone documents of the European Union’s water policy, setting out the framework for the protection of water resources and the regulation of their quality and quantity.
The workshop, organized within the framework of the “EU4Green Recovery” project, brought together representatives from Armenia, Moldova, and Ukraine responsible for water monitoring and management, as well as representatives of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Environment Agency Austria, International Office for Water (OiEau, France), and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The delegation of Armenia was represented by officials from the Water Policy Department of the Ministry of Environment, the “Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center” SNCO, and the Water Committee of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.
The National Coordination Platforms for the Implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive aim to strengthen cooperation between water data producers and policy-makers, facilitating the alignment of water monitoring and management in Armenia, Moldova, and Ukraine with EU standards.
The coordination platforms to be established in each country will follow common principles while taking into account the specific institutional frameworks and needs of Armenia, Moldova, and Ukraine. The platforms are expected to involve representatives from ministries, hydrometeorological services, river basin management authorities, and research organizations to coordinate data collection, analysis, and reporting in line with EU approaches and standarts.
