Conditioned by the period of whitefish natural reproduction, the commercial fishing season at Lake Sevan ended on December 1, 2020. The entry of any swimming means into Lake Sevan was banned, and intensified control has been established throughout Armenia. Taking into consideration the note (November 30, 2020) of the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia, and the five-sided activities on the period of whitefish natural reproduction, in a bid to ensure the natural fish reproduction, on December 2020 and on January 2021, 64 fishing nets were withdrawn from Dilijan checkpoints, the shores and water mirror area of Lake Sevan, due to joint supervision and preventive measures performed by the workers “Sevan” national park SNCO, Sevan Road Police, the Inspectorate for Nature Protection and Mineral Resources and the Police.
The fishing nets were confiscated and destroyed by the defined order of the law.
Control measures are in progress.
Earlier, on the initiative of the Ministry of Environment, the procedure of "commercial experimental whitefish fishing at Lake Sevan" has been launched this year.
A limit of 300 tones was set for commercial experimental whitefish fishing.
255 contracts were signed with the Ministry of Environment for fishing 236 tons of fish by submitting applications by the defined order of the law of "Sevan" national park SNCO.
About 204 tons of fish were caught during the whole fishing season
25 entrance points were set up for fishing, since the entry into the lake was from 19 points.
