On August 15, the introductory seminar of the project "Development of the national capacities of the Republic of Armenia in the field of effective management of chemical substances and waste in order to implement the conventions of Stockholm, Basel, Rotterdam, Minamata and strategic approaches to the international management of chemicals /SAICM" was held, which was attended by Deputy Minister of Environment Tigran Gabrielyan, Director of "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" SNCO ("Hayhydromet" SNCO) Levon Azizyan, national coordinator of the project, legal advisor of the Ministry of Environment Anahit Alexandryan, members of the project management board and specialists related to the project field.
Tigran Gabrielyan, Deputy Minister of Environment, made the opening speech, noting that the need to develop a unified system of activities, which includes all stages of the use of chemicals and waste, including their production, export, import, is an important point of view for the effective management of chemicals and the use of waste, storage, transportation, distribution, use and disposal.
In his welcoming speech, Levon Azizyan, director of the Center for Hydrometeorology and Monitoring, emphasized that all strategic, environmental and health programs of the Republic of Armenia are based on the principles of safe management of chemical substances and waste, and the "Hayhydromet" SNCO, as the implementing structure of the program, will pursue the implementation of the project's goal. namely to support institutional strengthening of countries at the national level in the context of an integrated approach to financing sound chemicals and waste management.
During the discussion, national coordinator of the project A. Alexandryan presented the goal and objectives of the project, as well as the expected results.
During the meeting, Meri Harutyunyan, the chief specialist of the Department of Strategic Policy of the Ministry of Environment, presented the process of implementing the extended producer responsibility system in Armenia, the international and national processes aimed at reducing plastic pollution.
Elena Manvelyan and Knarik Grigoryan, representatives of "Armenian Women for Health and Healthy Environment" NGO, presented the involvement of the NGO in the field of chemical substances and waste management.
The meeting ended with a round table discussion.
