On May 27-30, within the framework of the South Caucasus Regional Water Management (SCRWM) project implemented in the South Caucasus with USAID funding, "Armhydromet" SNCO hosted the delegation of the National Environmental Agency (NEA) of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, led by the head of the agency Vasil Gedevanishvili.
During the visit, a number of meetings took place, during which the Georgian partners got acquainted with the activities of "Armhydromet" SNCO, in particular with the work of the following divisions:
Meteorological service,
Climate service,
Hydrology service,
Central laboratory,
Geographic information systems and remote sensing service.
Georgian partners also visited the hydrological stations of Sevan-Hrazdan river basin and the meteorological stations of Aren, where they got acquainted with the works of the stations.
On May 30, a concluding discussion was held, during which the possible areas of cooperation between the two structures, the possibilities of implementing joint projects were discussed.
Levon Azizyan, Director of "Armhydromet" SNCO thanked Georgian partners for their visit, noting that further deepening of cooperation is very important. The recent accidents caused by particularly heavy rainfall proved the necessity of developing effective regional cooperation between the two organizations, particularly in the direction of the exchange of hydrometeorological data and the improvement of early warning systems of dangerous phenomena.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their willingness to continue the discussions to clarify the areas of cooperation of mutual interest, and an agreement was reached on the development of a draft of the memorandum of cooperation between "Armhydromet" SNCO and "NEA". After passing the relevant procedures, the memorandum of cooperation will be signed during the mutual visit of "Armhydromet" SNCO employees to Georgia.
