UN International Youth Day in the Context of Environmental Challenges

On August 12, the world celebrates the International Youth Day declared by the United Nations. Within the scope of the Day Council, an event titled "UN International Youth Day in the Context of Environmental Challenges" was held at the UN Office in Armenia with the participation of high school students.
Denis Besedich, Head of the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Armenia, and representatives of the Ministry participated in the event.
Ani Hakobyan, Press Secretary of the Minister and Head of Public Relations Division, conveyed to the participants of the event the welcome speech of Minister Hakob Simidyan and the congratulatory message on the occasion of the day.
The minister’s address touched upon the importance of actively involving young people in the field of environment and their key role in the context of solving environmental problems.
Denis Besedich, Head of the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Armenia, and Liana Ghahramanyan, Legal Advisor of the Ministry of Environment and National Coordinator of the Montreal Protocol, gave welcoming speeches.
 Liana Ghahramanyan referred to the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
She spoke to the attendees about the ozone layer and presented the protection of the ozone layer in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals, followed by a game-quiz based on the knowledge gained during the day.
In the second part of the event, Mari Chakryan, Legal Advisor of the Ministry, National Coordinator of the Aarhus Convention, delivered a speech entitled "Youth Participation in Environmental Processes in the Context of Sustainable Development Goals" and presented the youth with the provisions of the Aarhus Convention and the importance of ensuring public participation in decision-making.
Representatives of youth non-governmental organizations and educational institutions gave speeches, presenting successful experiments and implemented programs of youth that are involved in the field.
The event concluded with a question-and-answer session.
