Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan met the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the Republic of Armenia Mrs. Nariman Al-Mulla.
The minister congratulated the lady ambassador on her appointment and wished her an efficient activity.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of issues of mutual interest.
There is a great potential for cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the United Arab Emirates in the field of environment. Let's remind that between the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates in 2019. On January 15, a memorandum was signed on cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
During the meeting, reference was made to the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which will be held in the UAE from November 30 to December 12. The format and agenda of the Republic of Armenia's participation in the forum were discussed.
The minister assured once again that the climate agenda is the priority in Armenia and the Ministry of Environment is implementing a number of measures and programs in that direction.
The issue of restoration and protection of forest areas was also discussed. The minister spoke about the projects implemented in this direction and the Environmental Protection Service being created.
The ambassador was interested in the environmental monitoring system in Armenia. The minister presented the activities of the "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" of the MoE and the upcoming plans for the technical re-equipment of the center.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement to continue and expand regular discussions of agenda issues.
