Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, hosted the members of the Youth Council on Climate Change at the Ministry. The meeting held particular significance, as the Minister noted that it is the youth who will live in the future being shaped today.
The Minister highly appreciated the curiosity, courage, and innovative thinking of young people, describing them as the driving force capable of transforming both Armenia and the world.
“With this conviction, the Youth Council on Climate Change, established under the Ministry of Environment of the RA in cooperation with UNICEF, was launched in June 2025. From now on, the voice of young people will not only be heard but will also be reflected in decision-making processes, providing them with the opportunity to present the challenges of their communities and their environmental visions for the future,” noted the Minister.
During the meeting, the participants discussed ongoing environmental initiatives, and the Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to support the implementation of new youth-led proposals.
The Minister also presented the preparatory work for COP17, emphasizing that the upcoming conference will be more inclusive and that youth engagement is essential at every stage of the process.
Special attention was given to the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY). The Council members presented to the Minister the National Youth Statement of Armenia, adopted ahead of COP30, which will form part of the Global Youth Statement to be presented in Brazil in November this year.
The meeting took place in a warm and engaging atmosphere. The young participants expressed great interest, asking questions about international processes and opportunities for their involvement in environmental programs.
