Analyzing the process of pilot whitefish hunting for industrial purposes, which launched in 2020, highlighting its target, the Ministry of Environment launches the second stage of industrial fishing at Lake Sevan today.
According to the 2020 audit data of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, the total mass of whitefish in Lake Sevan comprised 2345 tons, of which the total industrial stock was about 586.2 tons; a maximum amount of 250 tons was defined for 2021 use in the second stage of pilot whitefishing.
According to the order of "Industrial pilot whitefishing at Lake Sevan":
The weight of the fish should not be less than 400 grams, fishing should be done with fishing net cages of 40 mm and more,
At least 500m from the shore to exclude catching fish frey, fishing will be performed by September 1,
A strict control regime will be established in December-January to ensure the spawning period of fish.
The entry and exit of fishing means will be executed from designated districts,
Fishing will be organized according to the time schedule approved by the authorized body, the inspector supervising the entry and exit points will fill out the data on the swimming means that entered the lake on that day and about the fishers in the relevant register; the time of the entry and exit, the fishing appliances, the amount of caught fish will be registered after completing fishing.
Those wishing to hunt whitefish in Lake Sevan for industrial purposes may submit bids on signing contracts to "Sevan" National Park SNCO and its branches by April 8.
