Ahead of the International Day for Biological Diversity, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan delivered a message, which was published on the official website of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
In the message, the Prime Minister noted,
''Dear ladies and gentlemen,
On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, I extend our warmest greetings on this auspicious occasion of the International Biodiversity Day 2025.
It is crucial to reflect on the urgent challenges that confront biodiversity and natural habitats, which are essential providers of ecosystem service providers and crucial for the very survival of humanity.
The motto of this year “Harmony with nature and sustainable development” underscores the need to renew our collective commitment to halting and reversing biodiversity loss as a key prerequisite for sustainable development and to ensure a just balance between the economic, social and environmental needs across generations.
Armenia highly values the vital role of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), its Protocols and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), as cornerstones of our global efforts for biodiversity preservation, sustainable use of the environment and equitable benefit sharing in a whole-of-government and whole-of-society manner and with full, active and meaningful involvement of Indigenous Peoples and local communities, youth, women, civil society and academia.
As the host and presidency of the Biodiversity COP17 to be held in Yerevan in 2026, Armenia looks forward to contributing to the advancement of the objectives of the Conventions, its Protocols and the Global Framework.
We stand ready to foster inclusive and result-oriented multilateral dialogue during the COP17 among the governments and non-governmental stakeholders on urgent biodiversity challenges and effective global actions.
We are confident that together we can make a substantial contribution to the global efforts towards biodiversity protection in the spirit of shared responsibility for our planet”.
