On the initiative of the Public Council attached to Acting Minister of Environment Romanos Petrosyan, a meeting-discussion was organized at the Ministry on the issue of white stork pollution

Acting Minister of Environment Romanos Petrosyan, members of the Public Council attached to the Minister, officers of the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body ,  the Branch of the German Nature Protection Union (NABU) in the Republic of Armenia, and journalists covering the environmental sphere participated in the discussion.
The main hypotheses of bird contamination, stork feathers, where, when, under which circumstances they are polluted, what group belongs to the substance on the feathers, etc., as well as the possibilities of influencing the solution of the problem were discussed.
The officer of NABU Armenia submitted a short report on the accomplished studies by the non-governmental organization in 2021 and the implemented  work to mitigate the impacts. These studies have made it possible to identify bird feed points and potential sources of contamination.
Deputy Head of the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body  V. Galoyan presented information on the observations, inspections and research results of pollution sources of storks following the received alerts, spoke about the fish farms located in Masis landfill, where pollution sources are possible.
Member of the Public Council attached to the Minister, Professor, Doctor of Biological Sciences S. Pipoyan urged the state agencies and organizations concerned with the issue to pay more attention to the way of life of birds and make it a subject of research in the search for a systemic solution to the problem.
The Acting Minister presented the steps assumed by the Ministry of Environment in this direction, dwelt on the letters addressed to various state agencies, and gave instructions to the relevant subdivision of the Ministry to prepare new letters. The Minister presented the roadmap for further steps and briefed that the public will be properly informed about the results of each phase.
