On April 1, 1906, the International Convention on Conservation of Birds was signed. International Migratory Bird Day has been marked in the United States since 1984, and has been celebrating all over the world.
This holiday is also included in the environmental calendar of Armenia.
There are about 9800 species of birds in the world. Armenia has a rather rich bird species compared to its small territory. About 376 of birds species have been found and studied throughout Armenia.
While there are no endemic species in Armenia, yet several dozen semi-desert and alpine species have been assessed as critically endangered, endangered or vulnerable.
