The Ministry of Environment Hosted Nonhlanhla Zindela, Green Climate Fund Deputy Director for Country Cooperation and Maxim Surkov, Regional Manager for Eastern Europe and Central Asia

The Ministry of Environment is the national authorized body of the Green Climate Fund in Armenia since May 2017.
In December 2018, the Main Agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) was signed, the purpose of which is to protect the fund's assets in Armenia and ensure the effective cooperation. According to the joint resolution of the UNFCCC, the implementation of the agreement is recommended for all developing countries receiving support from the Fund. On January 20, 2021 the National Assembly of the RA ratified the Main Agreement between Armenia and the GCF.
During the meeting held at the Ministry, Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan and Armen Yesoyan, Director of the Environmental Project Implementation Unit presented to their partners the existing cooperation between the Ministry of Environment and the Green Climate Fund.
Armenia started its practical cooperation with the Fund in 2017, when the joint UNDP-GCF project " De-risking and Scaling-up Investment in Energy Efficient Building Retrofits” was approved. The latter is the 10th program financed by the Fund in the world and the first in the Eurasian region.
With the financing of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the “Environmental Project Implementation Unit” state institution of the Ministry of Environment is also implementing:
"Increasing the forest resilience in Armenia through adaptation due to mitigation measures and expansion of green spaces in rural areas",
"Advancing programming and partnership framework with GCF and matching with country’s long-term low- carbon development strategies."
Nonhlanhla Zindelai, expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between the Fund and the Ministry and noted that the Republic of Armenia is one of the few countries that knows the techniques of working with the Green Climate Fund.
