In the frames of UNDP-GCF “National Adaptation Plan (NAP) to advance medium and long-term adaptation planning in Armenia”, “Increase Resilience of Armenia to Climate Change through Modernization of Armenia's Hydrometeorological Service”, the cooperation between Russia-UNDP Trust Fund for Development and “HMC” SNCO, in an effort to effect capacity-building of the employees, from March 9 to 18, 2021, trainings on "Use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for Environmental Monitoring" will be held at the MoE Training Center of "Hydrometerology and Monitoring Center" SNCO.
Besides the workers of "HMC" SNCO, employees of "Zvartnots" Aviameteorological Centre" CJSC, the Committee of Forest, "ArmForest" SNCO and Armenian Agrarian University are also invited to participate in the training.
On March 12, 2021, Levon Azizyan, Acting Director of HMC SNCO, handed certificates to the employees of HMC SNCO and "Zvartnots" Aviameteorological Centre" CJSC upon participating in the trainings on March 9-12.
Due to the trainings, the participants gained knowledge about data collection with new technologies and their application in daily work.
In attendance were the workers of the Committee of Forest and "ArmForest" SNCO.
From now on, it will be possible to fill the data gaps in hydrological-meteorological, as well as monitoring in hard-to-reach forest areas, information collection activities on risks of flood flows, mapping of necessary areas or vegetation, phenology and health by using drones.
Drones will provide accurate information in hard-to-reach places. The data can be used in geographic information systems (GIS) to turn into spatial information that will promote research and improve analytical activities.
