"Mountains ADAPT" is implemented by the initiative of the Ministry of Environment, within the framework of the program titled "Mountains Adaptation: Promoting Actions to Combat Climate Change" by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Sustainable Caucasus Program.
The pilot program is implemented by "Blejan" social organization.
The program will be implemented in the central uncultivated garden of Gavar Community, which is considered the most vulnerable to climate change. The area of the park to be reconstructed is about 1 ha. In addition to being a unique place for recreation, entertainment, strolls, nature education, the creation of a park with indigenous solutions will contribute to the preservation of plant diversity, thereby also improving the environment.
On May 23, representatives of the Ministry of Environment, foreign and Armenian representatives of organizations implementing the program had a meeting in Gavar Municipality with the mayor of Gavar, Gurgen Martirosyan. They presented the program and emphasized the cooperation with the municipality throughout the entire implementation of the program. The mayor expressed his willingness to actively support the project.
During the two-day visit to Gavar, the implementers of the program also talked about the program during the meetings with the beneficiaries, emphasized the implementation of the program and highlighted the contribution of everyone in the creation and maintenance of the park.
The program is the result-continuation of the regional meeting of "Climate Change Adaptation Issues in High Zones" held with the support of the UN Environment Program and the Caucasian Network for Sustainable Development of Mountainous Regions held in February in Gori, Georgia, and aims to increase the resistance of mountain communities in the region to climate change.
The program, worth 30,000 euros, will launch in Gavar in September of this year and will be continuous.
