Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, received Eva Sundquist, newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Armenia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed current and upcoming programs of cooperation between the two countries in the environmental sector. The Minister expressed gratitude to the Swedish government for its continued support of Armenia’s environmental reforms.
The “Waste Management in Armenia” program was also discussed. Through cooperation with Sweden, Armenia is working to adopt modern approaches to waste management, develop Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation, and implement pilot waste sorting initiatives.
Sweden's experience contributes to Armenia's transition to a circular and green economy model.
The meeting also addressed the effective management of the water sector, discussing existing challenges and potential areas for cooperation.
The Minister presented the preparatory work for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17). He emphasized that Armenia is ready to take an initiative role by organizing a conference that will not only serve as a platform for discussions but also act as a starting point for practical steps aimed at joint efforts to preserve biodiversity and promote sustainable development.
