Deputy Minister of Environment A. Mazmanyan, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry R. Grigoryan attended the meeting. Welcoming the Ambassador, Minister Petrosyan first thanked for the initiative of the meeting, then conveyed his warm greeting to his Kazakh counterpart, Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Mr. Mirzagaliyev.
The Minister promised to consider the letter regarding the proposals made by Mr. Mirzagaliyev, to discuss raised issues and the proposals to process them accordingly.
The Kazakh side submitted a request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, asking the Armenian side to provide information on the best available technology or best available techniques (BAT) for the first category of enterprises (database development of technology, economic efficiency assessment, ecological and technological characteristics of best techniques and technology in chemical, metallurgy, mining, cement, energy, industrial and other spheres) with reference to the Armenian experience.
The sides discussed a number of issues concerning the prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of environment.
The Minister expressed willingness to bolster the cooperation with the Kazakh side in a bid to have an even more protected environment.
"The Republic of Armenia has traditionally friendly relations with the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the CIS, the EEU and the CSTO. In case of having similar basis, it is reasonable that while protecting environment, efforts should be made for long-term constructive cooperation. I am ready for a rather tangible, long-term cooperation. In a short period of time we will facilitate the edges of point cooperation and we will discuss the platform where they will be realized: the Minister stated''.
Afterwards the Minister presented the reforms implemented by the Government of the Republic of Armenia, in particular the Ministry of Environment, in the sphere of environmental management to the Ambassador, itemizing the processes of launched legislative amendments and other current programs.
It was made special reference to the strategic program of the Government of the Republic of Armenia for the multiplication and expansion of forested areas, "10 million trees" initiative, within the framework of which it is envisaged to effect large nationwide tree-planting on April 25, by planting 300.000 trees. The Minister suggested to provide seedlings to the partners to join the nationwide tree planting with the staff of the embassy.
Ambassador Imanbayev thanked for the reception, expressed happiness that the sphere, on behalf of Minister Petrosyan, is governed by a specialist, who is deeply acquainted with environmental issues, the current situation, management concepts.
The parties agreed to bring the agreements reached during the meeting to an active stage in the near future through active correspondence and other means of cooperation.
