Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, hosted Bryan Ardouny, Executive Director of the Armenian Assembly of America, together with Anthony Barsamian and Oscar Tatosian, Board of Trustees members, as well as Ara Barsam, Executive Director of the Armenia Tree Project, at the Ministry.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the organizational and preparatory work for the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, to be held in Armenia in 2026. The Minister emphasized that this event of global significance represents a unique opportunity for Armenia to become a hub for international discussions on biodiversity conservation.
Minister Matevosyan briefed his partners on the steps already taken with regard to infrastructure, agenda-setting, and substantive preparations. The parties also discussed possible avenues for cooperation.
In a separate meeting with Ara Barsam, Executive Director of the Armenia Tree Project, the parties discussed tree-planting initiatives planned in advance of the conference. The Minister highlighted that such programs fully align with the goals of the conference and will have a lasting positive impact on the environment.
Concluding the meeting, Minister Matevosyan assured that through joint efforts, the conference will become a milestone event for Armenia and will showcase the country with dignity on the international stage.
