Republic of Iran (Tehran) to participate in the international conference on the fight against sand and dust storms. During the visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, the minister is accompanied by deputy minister Tigran Gabrielyan.
The two-day international conference on sand and dust storms is a high-level platform that aims to bring together countries and interested partners to discuss ways and means of solving the main challenges caused by sand and dust storms, and to find the best possible solutions and mechanisms.
The Conference aims to mobilize the commitment of participating countries for coordinated action at the subregional, regional, interregional and global levels to reduce risks and increase resilience to the negative transboundary impacts of sand and dust storms, and to agree on specific efforts and practical approaches based on relevant evidence and coordinated regional and on sub-regional action plans.
Sand and dust storms (SDS) seriously affect the health, food security and livelihoods of millions of people around the world. Due to climate change, there has been a significant increase in the frequency and geographic distribution of hurricanes and has received increased global attention in recent decades. They also present clear threats to achieving sustainable development in economic, social, health and environmental dimensions.
The following were discussed during the meetings:
- Socio-economic impacts of sand and dust storms,
- Acceleration of regional and international cooperation in the fight against sand and dust storms;
- Implementation of a regional action plan against sand and dust storms in Asia and the Pacific;
- Regarding the creation of a regional technical working group and other issues.
