Meeting With the Head of the EU Delegation within the Framework of Armenia's Environmental Agenda

Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, received the delegation led by Vassilis Maragos, Head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
During the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuing and deepening cooperation in the field of environmental protection, expanding it across both political and practical areas.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the European Union for its consistent support to the Republic of Armenia over the years. According to Minister Matevosyan, the projects implemented and continued with EU support in the fields of climate change, air protection, water resources management, and biodiversity conservation have made a significant contribution to Armenia’s sustainable development.
The parties also discussed opportunities for deepening cooperation within the framework of green transition, renewable energy, and climate resilience programmes. They emphasized the development of atmospheric air monitoring and management systems, as well as the importance of joint projects aimed at improving the ecological condition of Lake Sevan.
One of the key topics of the meeting was the organization and preparatory process of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which is scheduled to be hosted by Armenia in 2026. The Minister noted that active work is already underway to develop the substantive agenda of the conference, enhance infrastructure, and engage both local and international stakeholders. He emphasized that the conference is regarded as an important platform for presenting Armenia’s commitment to the conservation of global biodiversity.
Minister Matevosyan expressed confidence that EU-Armenia bilateral cooperation will yield tangible results in the coming years, contributing to environmental protection and improving the quality of life of Armenia’s citizens.
