The Kick-Off Meeting of the Action Plan of the "Biodiversity and Protected Areas" Component of the "Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development in Armenia" Programme Took Place

The kick-off meeting of the Action Plan of the "Biodiversity and Protected Areas" Component of the "Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development in Armenia" programme took place.
On July 12, 2024 “Biodiversity and Protected Areas” Component Advisory Agreement of the "Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development in Armenia" programme was signed and the kick-off meeting of the Action Plan of the "Biodiversity and Protected Areas" Component of the "Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development in Armenia" programme took place.
Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, Vladimir Kirakosyan, Head of the Eco-Patrol Service and Sevak Markosyan, Director of "Armforest" SNCO, Levon Aghasyan, Director of WWF-Armenia, Heads of professional divisions of the Ministry of Environment and subordinate structures, representatives from the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body, German Credit Institute for Reconstruction (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau – KfW), international and non-governmental organizations participated in the meeting. 
Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan gave a speech of welcome, in which once again highlighted the issue of biodiversity conservation and restoration.
Aram Meymaryan referred to the actions defined by the given component of the programme:
Development of management plans for specially protected nature areas (SPNA),
Presentation of the proposal for the creation of new SPNAs,
Increasing the efficiency of the management system of SPNAs,
Increasing the business income of the SNCOs managing the SPNAs,
Promotion of ecotourism,
Improvement of the socio-economic condition of the neighbouring communities,
Recording of flora and fauna,
Reviewing the Red Book,
Implementation of the monitoring system, etc.
Aram Meymaryan expressed hope that the programme implemented with the support and assistance of the German Government will help solve a number of environmental problems.
