The interdepartmental working group coordinating the cleanup and restoration of the Tsakkar and Karchaghbyur Rivers met under the leadership of Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan. The representatives from various bodies, including the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the RA; the Ministry of Economy of the RA; the Ministry of Finance of the RA; the Water Committee of the Ministry of Territorial Administration; the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body; the Urban Development and Cadastre Committees; the staff of the Governor of Gegharkunik; and the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the RA.
The meeting focused on the development of action plans to identify, inventory, and eliminate sources of river pollution. Based on data collected from various departments and information available at the Ministry of Environment of the RA, a draft action plan for the cleanup and restoration of the Tsakkar and Karchaghbyur Rivers was prepared and submitted for consideration.
During the discussion, participants addressed cost assessments, potential funding sources, as well as long-term and systemic solutions to prevent river pollution.
The Minister emphasized that the plan should include not only theoretical approaches but also practical, implementable solutions.
