Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan participated in the high-level discussion on “MEA synergies: Advancing Global Environmental Goals through National Actions” organized by UNEP and the CBD Secretariat.
In his remarks, the Minister emphasized the importance of multilateral environmental agreements in achieving global environmental goals and ensuring coherence among national policies.
The Minister noted that international commitments must be implemented through concrete national actions—legislative reforms, institutional strengthening, science-based decision-making, and the promotion of green technologies and innovative solutions.
Hambardzum Matevosyan stressed that climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity conservation, land degradation prevention, and the sustainable use of water and other natural resources are priorities for Armenia.
The Minister highlighted that commitments undertaken within the framework of various conventions should be implemented in a coordinated manner, through joint programs and investments, to avoid duplication of efforts and ensure more effective outcomes.
He also underscored the importance of cooperation with international partners, regional organizations, the private sector, academia, and civil society to transform the economic development model and make it greener and more resilient.
