Hakob Simidyan, Minister of Environment of the RA received Alessandro Ferranti, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Armenia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities to expand cooperation between Armenia and Italy in the field of environmental protection. Emphasis was placed on the promotion of joint programs and the exchange of experience, taking into account the atmosphere of mutual trust between the two countries and the shared environmental challenges on their agendas.
Minister Simidyan outlined the steps undertaken by the Government of the Republic of Armenia to protect the environment, with particular emphasis on the significance of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which will be held in Yerevan in 2026. The parties discussed potential avenues for cooperation in the preparatory process for the conference.
During the meeting, reference was also made to the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2021 between the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia and the Italian Ministry for Ecological Transition, which serves as a foundation for the development of joint initiatives across various environmental sectors.
The meeting marked an important step towards deepening the dialogue between the two countries in the environmental sector and identifying opportunities for long-term cooperation.
