Within the framework of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Conference held in Abu Dhabi, Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan participated in the “Enhancing the Effectiveness and Deepening the Engagement of the Global Review” event, initiated by the French Government, and delivered a speech. In his speech, Minister Matevosyan emphasized the importance of the Global Review process as a key mechanism for implementing the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (#KMGBF). He noted that the COP17 to be held in Yerevan in 2026 will serve as a turning point in consolidating international efforts in the field of nature conservation and enhancing the effectiveness of global actions. Minister Matevosyan noted that Armenia, in assuming the responsibility of hosting COP17, will be guided by the values of inclusiveness, transparency, high ambition, and concrete action. He emphasized that the goal is to unite governments, indigenous peoples and local communities, women and youth, cities and regions, scientists, and financial institutions into one global community. The Minister emphasized that the Global Review represents an interim milestone on the path toward achieving the 2030 goals of the #KMGBF. He also noted that the 2026 assessment will serve as an important opportunity to evaluate collective progress, identify existing gaps, and refine political, collaborative, and financial priorities. Minister Matevosyan called on all Parties to submit their seventh national reports and revised national biodiversity strategies at the earliest opportunity to ensure a timely and effective process. “Armenia will undertake a number of actions to ensure that the Global Review delivers tangible and measurable results. These actions will include establishing voluntary partnership mechanisms to share experiences, expand financial flows for nature, and strengthen accountability. As the next Chair of the Conference, Armenia plans to organize regional dialogues, technical consultations, and pre-conference meetings in Yerevan with the active involvement of all stakeholders,” the Minister noted.
