The draft law "On Amendments and Supplements to the Water Code of the Republic of Armenia" was discussed in the National Assembly.
The adoption of the draft law will regulate the process of cleaning riverbeds and clarify the rules regarding the issuance, review, and suspension of water use permits, all of which will contribute to more effective water resource management. Tigran Gabrielyan, Deputy Minister of Environment, mentioned this during the National Assembly session on March 25, when presenting the draft law on amendments and additions to the RA Water Code in the first reading.
According to the Deputy Minister, as a result of the heavy rains in July 2024, a disaster zone was declared in several settlements in Tavush and Lori Regions and it became necessary to discuss the issue of cleaning riverbeds.
