The Parliament held a second reading of the draft law “On Making Amendments and Addenda to the Water Code of the Republic of Armenia”.
The draft law was presented by Tigran Gabrielyan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA.
The adoption of the draft law will regulate the process of riverbed cleaning and clarify the regulations related to the issuance, review, and suspension of water use permits, which will contribute to the effective management of water resources.
The Ministry of Environment developed a draft decision titled “On Establishing the Procedure for Cleaning Water Resource Beds of Household Waste, Sediments, and Other Objects That Impede Natural Flow”. To implement the draft decision, it was necessary to introduce an authorizing provision into the Water Code.
To legally address existing issues related to the effective management of water resources, the concept of “water use permit” was supplemented by the draft law.
The requirement for water users to submit a copy of their water use permit to the authorized body during the permit review process was removed, along with the grounds for suspension due to non-submission of the permit.
