Deputy Minister of Environment Gayane Gabrielyan participates in the conference entitled "Water for Sustainable Development" in New York

The deputy minister noted that this conference is the first in almost 50 years, which could be a turning point for the 6th goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development, which is to ensure sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
In his speech, the deputy minister spoke about the increasing importance of water resources, referring to the problems and challenges of the sector.
"Armenia signed the UN Economic Commission for Europe Protocol on Water and Health in 1999 and is currently reviewing the challenges and opportunities of ratification.
Another important water policy reform was the "Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement" signed between Armenia and the EU in 2017, which contains ambitious commitments in the field of water resources and quality.
The program of the RA government clearly defines all the directions and measures that support the implementation of the strategy developed by the government in the water sector. All of that includes the development of a river basin management plan, the organization of drinking water and irrigation system and the treatment and disposal of waste water, as well as the organization of supervision and monitoring," said Gayane Gabrielyan, referring to the process of development of sectoral strategies by the Ministry.
