Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, received the delegation from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMUKN).
The Minister expressed gratitude to the German government for its continued support to the environmental sector, emphasizing that such assistance makes a significant contribution to the development of Armenia’s environmental policy.
During the meeting, the effectiveness of Armenian-German cooperation in the field of environmental protection was discussed, with particular focus on the progress of jointly implemented programmes. The discussion covered the largest grant program, “Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development in Armenia”, with a total budget of €26 million, as well as the “Support Program for Protected Areas– Armenia” and the “EU4Sevan” Lake Sevan environmental protection initiatives.
Minister Matevosyan also outlined the process of replenishing the Eco-Patrol Service operating within the Ministry of Environment of the RA.
The discussion focused on the preparatory work for the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, scheduled to be held in Armenia in 2026. In this context, the Minister emphasized the importance of exchanging international experience, exploring opportunities for organizational and technical assistance, and ensuring the sustainability and adherence to environmental standards for the conference.
