Armenia and Japan will cooperate on the modernization of the atmospheric air quality monitoring system.
On July 10, the Government of Armenia approved the signing of a grant agreement with Japan, which will support the continued technological development of the atmospheric air quality monitoring sector.
Air quality monitoring is a vital tool for protecting human health and addressing climate change. However, the methods currently in use are outdated and do not meet modern standards. For instance, the data become available only after a minimum of three days, and it is not technically possible to measure key pollutants such as PM10, PM2.5, and carbon monoxide.
The project will modernize three monitoring stations by equipping them with state-of-the-art Japanese automatic equipment, enabling real-time monitoring of air pollution. The data will be made publicly accessible, allowing citizens to track air quality online.
This cooperation will help align Armenia’s atmospheric air monitoring system with international standards and enhance the country’s environmental control capacities.
