The 22nd meeting of the inter-ministerial Steering Committee of the National Policy Dialogue on water issues in Armenia took place which is an important step towards water policy reform and the development of Armenia's water strategy. During the meeting, issues of socio-economic development and climate change resilience were discussed, as well as the experience of joint water resources monitoring between Armenia and Georgia.
The members of the Interdepartmental Committee of the National Policy Dialogue on Water Issues in Armenia: from the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Economy, Public Services Regulatory Commission, Regional Governors’ offices, universities, and NGOs, as well as representatives of the EU Delegation to Armenia and International Water programs participated in the meeting.
Tigran Gabrielyan, Deputy Minister of Environment, welcomed the participants of the 22nd meeting of the inter-ministerial Steering Committee of the National Policy Dialogue on water issues in Armenia, noting that the dialogue began back in 2006, and has made great progress in recent years: amendments to the Water Code have been adopted, online flowmeters have been installed, and water use permits have been digitized.
Tigran Gabrielyan also emphasized the importance of the ISO 17025 accreditation of the laboratory of "Armhydromet" SNCO.
Frank Hess, Head of Cooperation Section at the EU Delegation to Armenia, emphasized that the EU is ready to continue its support for the development of EU-Armenia relations.
Speaking on behalf of the partners implementing the “EU4Environment - Water Resources and Environmental Data” programme, Alexander Zinke, Representative of the Environment Agency Austria and Head of the Consortium for the EU4Environment. Water Resources and Environmental Data programme, presented the commitment and actions of the Armenian Government in the water sector.
