Armenia Joins the International Big Cat Alliance

Aram Meimaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, signed the framework agreement of the International Big Cat Alliance on behalf of the Republic of Armenia. Nilakshi Saha Sinha, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Armenia, also attended the event, underscoring the growing cooperation between the two countries in the field of environmental protection.
The goal of the alliance is to bring together countries to jointly conserve and restore the world’s seven big cat species. Armenia’s accession to the alliance marks an important step in reaffirming the country’s active role in global biodiversity conservation efforts. It also contributes to the expansion of local initiatives focused on the protection of the Persian leopard and other rare feline species, while fostering international knowledge exchange and cooperation.
Currently, up to 10 leopards inhabit the territory of Armenia.
The signed agreement envisions cooperation not only in the development of environmental policy but also in areas such as financing and technological solutions, positioning nature protection as a truly integral part of the global agenda.
Through this step, Armenia reaffirms its commitment to preserving biodiversity and contributing to the global fight against climate change.
