Today, Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan met Japan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Armenia Fukushima Masanori.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Aram Meimaryan and heads of professional units of the Ministry.
Welcoming Mr. Ambassador to the Ministry of Environment, the minister happily noted that meetings with Mr. Ambassador have become frequent and this once again speaks of the importance and effective course of jointly implemented projects.
The minister also thanked the Japanese government for its continuous support to the Republic of Armenia in the field of environment.
During the meeting, reference was made to the problem of the rapid development and spread of the disease observed among pine trees in the territory of "Sevan" National Park. Taking into account the advanced experience of Japan in the field of environmental protection, the support of the Japanese side is expected in the settlement of the above-mentioned important issue.
The problem of atmospheric air pollution in Armenia was also discussed, in particular, the issue of strengthening the monitoring capacity and local re-equipment of the "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" SNCO of the MoE.
The minister informed that the work carried out in the direction of atmospheric air quality is a priority for the Ministry of Environment at the moment and expressed readiness for closer cooperation.
Let's remind that 11 automatic meteorological stations (including three steam gauges) were purchased within the framework of the UNDP "Support to National Investments in Climate Risk Resilience in Armenia" program funded by the Japanese government, which were installed in the meteorological stations of the "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" SNCO operating in Gegharkunik, Syunik and Tavush regions.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue close contacts in order to develop cooperation on the above-mentioned issues.
